Eligibility 


Food Bank

  • Definition: We maintain a canned/boxed donated goods food-bank. The bank is for emergency situations only where food can be  provided which will last one or two days
  • Eligible Clients: Residents of King George who are without food for the day/night
  • Eligibility Requirements: Residency only
  • Number of times accessible: Once per month until Food Stamps begin to arrive. On an emergency basis only

Food Stamps

  • Definition: Federally Funded Program designed to supplement food requirements for families. 
  • Eligible Clients: Residents of King George County. 
  • Eligibility Requirements: Residency, Income, Resources, and Household Composition. 
  • Number of times accessible: As needed. 

Medicaid

  • Definition: Supplemental Health Insurance. 
  • Eligible Clients: Residents of King George County. 
  • Eligibility Requirements: Must meet a State established Category of Eligibility, residency, income, and resources. 
  • Number of times accessible: As needed. 

CMSIP/FAMIS

  • Definition: State Sponsored Children's Medical Insurance Program. 
  • Eligible Clients: Residents of King George between the ages of birth through 19. 
  • Eligibility Requirements: Residency, not eligible for  Medicaid, not eligible nor have access to insurance programs through  parents' medical plans, family income, and resources. 
  • Number of times accessible: As needed. 

State & Local Hospitalization

  • Definition: Supplemental Hospital Coverage. 
  • Eligible Clients: Residents of King George. 
  • Eligibility Requirements: Residency, income, resources, and the facility must be an eligible provider. 
  • Number of times accessible: As needed. 

General Relief

  • Definition: Program to assist with rent, utilities, prescriptions, or limited medical visits. 
  • Eligible Clients: King George residents not receiving Medicaid, SSI, or TANF/VIEW assistance. 
  • Eligibility Requirements: Residency, and must have a  crisis situation (i.e. Turn Off notice or Eviction Notice, etc.) as the  result of a loss of income or a dramatic change in his/her employment,  within the last 30 days 
  • Number of times accessible: One time in a twelve-month period.

Auxiliary Grant Funding

  • Definition: Supplemental payment to a "Home for Adults". 
  • Eligible Clients: King George residency. 
  • Eligibility Requirements: Income, resources, and residency. 
  • Number of times accessible: As needed.

Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF)

  • Definition: A temporary (limited to 60 months during a lifetime) financial subsidy to assist with the financial needs of children. 
  • Eligible Clients: King George residents with children. 
  • Eligibility Requirements: Household composition (the  children must be living with a relative of a specified degree), income,  resources, residency and, absent parents must be referred to the  Department of Child Support Enforcement. 
  • Number of times accessible: As needed. 

Virginia Initiative for Employment not Welfare (VIEW)

  • Definition: Employment service program designed to promote and assist eligible TANF customers in achieving self-sufficiency. 
  • Eligible Clients: King George residents receiving TANF. 
  • Eligibility Requirements: Household composition,  income, resources, and residency. All applicants must be eligible for  TANF. This can be a mandatory program or a volunteer program depending  on the household situation. 
  • Number or times accessible: Must inquire. 

Fuel Assistance

  • Definition: Financial Program, supplement to assist with fuel costs during specified seasons. 
  • Eligible Clients: King George residents. 
  • Eligibility Requirements: Residency, income and resources. 
  • Number of times accessible: Once per season (November through March).

Christmas Program

  • Definition: Community based program designed to assist  with items for children through donations from local residents,  businesses, and Churches. 
  • Eligible Clients: King George residents. 
  • Eligibility Requirements: Children from birth to 16,  the elderly, and individuals with disabilities. Children must not be in a  truancy status, or have any delinquency issues pending. 
  • Number of times accessible: Once per season. 

Thanksgiving Program

  • Definition: Provide food assistance for families through donations from local residents, businesses, and Churches. 
  • Eligible Clients: King George residents. 
  • Eligibility Requirements: Must meet food stamp eligibility requirements, exceptions are the elderly and/or disabled individuals. 
  • Number of times accessible: Once per season.

Services 


Indoor Plumbing Program

  • Definition: State sponsored program designed to install running water, sewage, bathrooms, and/or kitchens. 
  • Eligible Clients: King George landowners. 
  • Eligibility Requirements: No running water, must be homeowner with a deed, must be willing to contract with the State. 
  • Number of times accessible: One time only.

Hinton Medical Fund

  • Definition: Private donation to assist with prescriptions and medical appointments. Funds are limited and may not be available. 
  • Eligible Clients: King George residents. 
  • Eligibility Requirements: Income, resources, and residency. 
  • Number of times accessible: Limited to once per year. 

Special Welfare

  • Definition: Donated funds designated to assist with utilities, rent, or emergency needs. Limited to $100.00 per occurrence. 
  • Eligible Clients: King George residents. 
  • Eligibility Requirements: Must be able to demonstrate that they can meet the obligation with the assistance of the $100. 
  • Number of times accessible: One time per year. 

Day Care


VIEW Day Care 

  • Definition: Federally funded program for full, partial, and before/after school day care. 
  • Eligibility Requirements: Children of King George  parents who are in good standing and actively participating in the VIEW  program. No parental co-pay is required with this program. 

VIEW Transitional Day Care:

  • Definition: Federally funded program for full, partial, and before/after school day care. 
  • Eligibility Requirements: King George parents who have  successfully transitioned out of the VIEW program yet still require day  care assistance for up to 12 months. There is a parental co-pay assessed  in this program.

View AFDC (TANF) Working Child Day Care

  • Definition: Federally funded program for full, partial, and before/after school day care. 
  • Eligibility Requirements: King George parents who are receiving TANF. There is no parental co-pay if they meet the eligibility/income criteria.

CDC Fee at Risk

  • Definition: Federally funded program for full, partial, and before/after school day care for parents who are employed, are in  an approved educational/training program, or are in need of protective  services. 
  • Eligibility Requirements: Residency and income. A parental co-pay is assessed for this program.

Transitional Day Care

  • Definition: Federally funded program for full, partial, and before/after school day care for parents whose TANF case has closed. 
  • Eligibility Requirements: Residency and income. A parental co-pay is assessed for this program. 

AFDC (TANF) Working Day Care

  • Definition: Federally funded program for full, partial,  and before/after school day care for parents who are drawing TANF and  are employed. 
  • Eligibility Requirements: Residency and income. No parental co-pay is assessed for this program. 

Ongoing Services

  • Definition: This program is designed to provide in-home  services to families that have a founded CPS complaint or are ordered  by the Court to participate in services that enable them to rebuild the  family unit or to correct issues that have placed children at risk.  These services include, but are not limited to: counseling, in-home  therapy, parenting classes, monitoring, case management, and daycare. 
  • Eligible Clients: King George residency. 
  • Eligibility Requirements: Court Orders, and/or a Founded CPS. 
  • Number of times accessible: As needed. 

Family Preservation

  • Definition: This program is designed to provide  families with stabilization and support services. These services  identify needs, provide necessary referrals, monitor progress, provide  for family counseling, intensive in-home therapy, parenting classes,  case management, some assistance with housing, utilities, and  transportation. 
  • Eligible Clients: "At Risk" King George residents. 
  • Eligibility Requirements: Court ordered, voluntary inquiry, or agency identified as "AT Risk". 
  • Number of times accessible: As needed. 

Home Studies

  • Definition: In depth studies completed in the homes of county residents and submitted to the Court for action on custody/adoption issues. 
  • Eligibility requirements: Requests from King George  residents and Court Ordered studies. A fee may be assessed for this  service, fees are based on household income levels. 

Child Protective Services

Adult Protective Services

  • Definition: Investigative arm which is necessary to prevent abuse, neglect, or exploitation of the elderly or disabled. 
  • Eligible Clients: King George residents who are  incapacitate eighteen years of age or older and/or persons sixty years  of age who are at risk of abuse, neglect, or exploitation without regard  to income. 
  • Eligibility Requirements: Residency, disability, or age. 
  • Number of times accessible: As needed. 

Assistance Elderly/Disabled

  • Definition: Direct services which are necessary to  prevent abuse, neglect, or exploitation of the elderly or disabled.  Services can include, but are not limited to financial assistance with  rent/utilities, counseling, home repairs, transportation, food,  prescriptions, fuel, etc. 
  • Eligible Clients: King George residents who are  disabled and eighteen years of age or older, and/or persons sixty years  of age who are at risk of abuse, neglect, or exploitation. 
  • Eligibility Requirements: Income, resources, and residency. 
  • Number of times accessible: As needed. 

Adult Services Home Based Companion Program

  • Definition: Federally funded program which allows for a  companion aid in the home for no more than 20 hours per week to provide  basic assisted living services. 
  • Eligible Clients: King George residents. 
  • Eligibility Requirements: Age, disability, income, resources, and residency. 
  • Number of times accessible: As needed. 

Community Based Services

  • Definition: Special programs worked in conjunction with  DSS to provide local assistance where Federal/State funding is not  available or where benefits have been exhausted. Services can include  but are not limited to: Rental assistance, rent deposits, utility  assistance, mentoring, financial counseling, religious counseling, food,  meeting material needs, prescriptions, medical expenses, eye glasses,  transportation, parenting classes, teen programs, etc. Referrals are  made by Social Workers. 
  • Eligible Clients: King George residents. 
  • Eligibility Requirements: Differ with each referral. 
  • Number of times accessible: Differ with each program. 

Domestic Violence

  • Definition: Any family in crisis where abuse of any  nature occurs between family members living at the same address can  access counseling services, referrals to other domestic violence agency,  shelter assistance, court advocacy, and other types of assistance that  may be needed to prevent further disruption to the family unit. This  service is geared to prevention but extends into services after  adjudication has occurred. 
  • Eligible Clients:  King George residents. 
  • Eligibility Requirements: Differ with each referral. 
  • Number of times accessible: As needed. 

Foster Care

Definition: State sponsored temporary housing program  for children entering Foster Care via a court order, permanent  entrustment agreement between the parents (legal custodian) and DSS or a  temporary entrustment (limited to 90 days) agreement between the  parents (legal custodian) and DSS. 

  • Eligible Clients: King George Children under the age of 18. 
  • Foster Care Prevention: 
  • Definition: Services designed to prevent children from  entering into foster care. These services can include but are not  limited to in-home counseling, mentoring, parenting classes, referrals  to services, case management, and temporary entrustments agreements  between the agency and parents (legal custodians). 
  • Eligible Clients: King George residents with court orders, or voluntary requests from parents. 
  • Eligibility Requirements: Income, resources, fund availability, and residency. 
  • Number of times accessible: As needed. 

Adoptions

Definition: A social and legal process which  establishes the relationship of parent and child between people who do  not have this relationship by birth. It provides the same rights and  obligations that exist between children and their birth parents. 

  • Eligible Clients: King George residents. 
  • Eligibility Requirements: Court Ordered services. 
  • Services provided: Home studies, subsidies, placement services, and limited legal assistance.
