The Patrol Division is the most visible entity of the Sheriff's Office. Shifts of uniformed deputies patrol the county 24 hours a day. Their duties include enforcing traffic laws, serving criminal warrants, responding to calls-for-service from the public, conducting preliminary investigations, and being first responders to major crimes. The dedicated men and women of this division are true law enforcement professionals who stand prepared and vigilant to protect and serve our community.
The K-9 Unit is part of the Patrol Division. This unit currently consists of two K-9 teams: Sgt. Alison Nowacki and her partner Kilo, and Deputy Wayland Carter and his partner Axel. Both K-9's are cross-trained for patrol and narcotics detection and are certified by the Virginia Police K-9 Association.
The Sheriff's Office Court Services Division has the responsibility of protecting the presiding judges and maintaining an orderly courtroom, as well as transporting prisoners to and from other jurisdictions. Members of this division are also the primary servers of civil process, which includes subpoenas and summonses.
