Join the historical society, board of supervisors and parks & recreation at the annual King George Christmas Tree Lighting on Sunday, Dec. 3, at 4:00 p.m. until 6 p.m. There is a potential quorum for the King George Board of Supervisors and the King George Service Authority Board of Directors at this event.
Watch the new Christmas tree grow as your little ones grow over the next few years!
Some of you may have recently taken another look when passing the King George County Museum, noticing there was something different. The old Christmas tree had to be replaced due to the tree contracting a disease. In the spring of 2023, a new healthy Green Giant Arborvitae was planted. This species of tree is anticipated to mature to 40-60 feet tall with a width of 12-18 feet. It has already grown a couple of feet since it was planted and will continue to grow at a rate of 3-4 feet per year. It currently rests at approximately 13 feet tall.
As you may expect, the new tree needs time to grow before it can be fully decorated, but don't fret! The Parks and Recreation and General Properties Departments have beautiful lights in store for the King George Christmas Tree Lighting. Other festive activities will be available as well, including Santa, hot chocolate, music, s'mores and more!
Be sure to snap a pic of you next to the tree to see how much it grows year-to-year!
