Service Authority Drinking Water Notice for Dahlgren

Tap Water Faucet

King George Service Authority customers served by the Dahlgren Water Treatment System have recently received a notice that the maximum contaminate level for lead in drinking water has been exceeded in some homes. The levels are directly related to lead pipes in residences built prior to 1986.

In 1991, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published the Lead and Copper Rule, which requires systems to monitor drinking water at customer taps.

In August 2022, ten (10) homes served by the Dahlgren Water Treatment System were tested as part of the triannual sampling per the EPA Lead and Copper Rule.

In October 2022, test results were provided to the King George Service Authority by the Virginia Department of Health (VDH), showing no known excedences in lead levels.

In June 2023, VDH reexamined the results from October 2022 and determined that two (2) of the ten (10) homes tested had exceeded safe levels of lead.

In July 2023, notices about the results were issued to all Dahlgren Water Treatment System customers, not just homes built prior to 1986.

To ensure the safety of its customers, the King George Service Authority will be conducting additional testing over the next year to monitor risk factors for unsafe lead levels in homes served by the Dahlgren Water Treatment System.

Residents who live in homes built prior to 1986 may be at risk of exposure to lead and are advised to seek out the following resources for more information:
