The bench is here, and King George Parks and Recreation is putting it together for public use now. Stay tuned for an update from them on where to check it out. To offload the program, the county will continue to collect qualifying plastics until Saturday, Jan. 31. Beginning Feb. 1, the county will no longer be accepting recycling contributions for this project. Enjoy your well-earned park bench!

The fourth weigh in resulted in another 260 pounds collected for a grand total of 840 pounds so far. King George only needs 160 more pounds of single-use, thin plastics to earn our community a park bench for one of King George Parks and Recreation's facilities.

Update #2

The second weigh in of the first quarter is in, and the solid waste and recycling department are such pros that they managed to split the weigh ins to the exact pound!

With another 160 pounds weighed in, the community is at a total of 320 pounds collected. That means King George only needs to collect 680 more pounds of single-use, thin plastics to earn our community a park bench for one of King George Parks and Recreation's facilities.

Stay tuned for the weigh-in results for next quarter in November!

Update #1

King George County is pleased to announce the outstanding preliminary results from the first quarter of the community's single-use, thin plastics recycling challenge. The enthusiastic participation of residents has led to a remarkable volume of collected materials, necessitating a split in the initial weigh-in.

The King George Solid Waste & Recycling Department assisted with the first portion of the collection weigh-in, which amounted to 160 pounds of recyclable plastics. This significant contribution brings the community within 840 pounds of achieving its goal to earn a new park bench to be placed in one of King George Parks and Recreation's facilities.

Further details regarding the weight of the remaining portion of the first quarter collection will be released shortly.
